Founded in 1956, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) is one of the earliest established higher education institutions for Chinese medicine in the People’s Republic of China. BUCM is directly under the supervision of China’s Ministry of Education and has been appointed as a participant in the China "211 Project”, a national development project committed to achieving first-class international-level education and scholarship. BUCM consists of 13 schools and offers degree programs at undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels in Chinese Medicine. The schools are:School of Preclinical Medicine, the First School of Clinical Chinese Medicine (Dong Zhi Men Hospital), the Second School of Clinical Chinese Medicine (Dong Fang Hospital), the Third School of Clinical Chinese Medicine (the Third Affiliated Hospital), School of Chinese Materia Medica, School of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina, School of Management, School of Nursing, School of Humanities, Graduate School, International School, School of Continuing Education and School of Distance Learning.
